Production highlights
Glacier
Glacier Toured in the UK from January - April 2008.
70 minute dance theatre production for seven dancers choreographed and directed
by Maresa von Stockert.
Glacier is an evening long dance theatre piece. Emotionally charged and uniquely virtuosic,
seven outstanding performers dance along the edge of melting glaciers and broken
off ice floes. Glacier paints a glistening and sometimes disturbing picture of
society reflected on an icy surface which is gradually thawing away, beautifully
distorting the mirrored image. Maresa von Stockert is known for telling dance
theatre stories exposing the human anti-hero and society's shortcomings. Glacier goes a step further and look not only at the individual in society but also at
society in its habitat - the social issue will be opened to an environmental one.
Dealing with the issues of global warming and environmental change in symbolical
and metaphorical images, Glacier is both a hauntingly beautiful as
well as a disturbing piece. Reflecting humanity's deepest fears and struggles
with, for and against nature, Glacier's very contemporary subject matter is communicated through a highly inventive
and sensual movement language.
Marjorie's World Unhinged
Marjorie's World Unhinged toured in the UK from Autumn 2006 - Spring 2007.
Bringing characters to life that could have jumped out of an Edward Gorey illustration - 'Marjorie's World Unhinged' lets the audience look behind velvet curtains to reveal a beautifully grotesque world of rivalry, blood, sweat and tears.
Revealing what could happen if instead of our pets we took our imagination for a walk and let it off the lead, Maresa von Stockert entwines the stories of six very different characters, each of them looking for their own way of escaping reality - be it by dreaming of floating into the clouds hanging onto a helium balloon or flying away on the back of a moth. Characters ranging from aging ballerinas to factory workers will be brought to life by Tilted Productions' company of six outstanding performers.
More Grim(m) Desires
A dance theatre sextet is entwined in the bittersweet world of fairy tales. Letting
the audience revisit long forgotten, dark corners of the memory, More Grim(m) Desires exposes five well-known European fairy tales and their underbelly of deeply rooted
human instincts, fears and desires.
Beyond the Seven Seas
A 30 minute dance theatre piece for five dancers (3 women, 2 men) inspired by
sea stories, particularly the Greek myth of the Oesirens', and sailor song lyrics
from different maritime cultures. Using an imaginative and complex movement language,
the piece reflects an absurd world of fisherman's tales and the strange suspension
of life beneath the surface. Infused with von Stockert's trademark ironic wit
and theatricality Beyond the Seven Seas takes the spectator for a dive into the blue abyss and leaves behind life jackets
and sea charts.
Nightmares in Butter Cream (2002)
A 30 minute dance theatre duet that takes a close-up look at the never-ending
quest for love. Combining black humour and elaborate unexpected movement, this
piece zooms in on a twisted relationship exposing all its loving cruelties. The
creation of Nightmares in Butter Cream was funded by a Zone3 Production Award from Jackson's Lane and London Arts and
supported by The Place Choreodrome 2002 and the Jerwood Space.
Beyond the Seven Seas and Nightmares in Butter Cream feature an extraordinary cross-art form collaboration involving a highly successful
team of collaborators: sound design by Jeremy Cox, set design by Ed King and lighting design by Helen Cain.
In 2004 Maresa von Stockert created a piece for Phoenix Dance Company which toured world-wide together with pieces by Darshan Singh-Buller, Rui Horta
and Henri Oguike.
