Production highlights
Learning from our past, preparing for tomorrow
In recognition of the bicentenary of the abolition of the trans Atlantic slave
trade in British ships, IRIE! Dance theatre presents Learning from our past, preparing for tomorrow, a national touring production and education programme, which will provide audiences
and workshop participants with an opportunity to explore parts of the history
and the impact of the descendents of slaves on British culture.
Warm Sands and Grey Skies
Looking closely at the importance of movement and music linked to ritual and
rites as a way in which African people would have ensured their survival through
brutal and ugly times, Warm Sands and Grey Skies will invoke a sense of their physical and spiritual progression.
Investigating the music, dance and politics of the day and how this helped to shape the cultural landscape, will give Warm Sands and Grey Skies the conviction to present what would have informed and influenced the synergy which we now recognise as contemporary fusion or urban mix.
