Opportunity for Professional Development with Slanjayvah Danza
31 August - 4 September 2010


Slanjayvah Danza's Summer CO-LAB 2010 is round the corner, offering a range of exciting Professional Development opportunities. Led by Artistic Director and Choreographer Jenni Wren, this years Co-Lab is a 5 day working experience with a professional dance company and other collaborating artists including musicians and photographers.

During the week dancers will engage in daily technique classes and undertake a week of movement research where Jenni Wren will be exploring ideas and themes of a new work. There are opportunities to spend a second week with the company, at the discretion of the Artistic Director.

Places are open to all Contemporary Dancers, recent graduates and 3rd year students. Participant numbers are strictly limited.

CO-LAB will consider dancers for future works making it an opportunity to establish a relationship with the company in its home base, SEVEN Artspace in Chapel Allerton, Leeds.

As always Tavaziva Dance opens its company class to professional dancers and students who are close to completing their full time training (degree level or equivalent). Our classes are led by Artistic Director Bawren Tavaziva, popular guest ballet teacher Denzil Bailey or one of the company dancers.

Cost: £15 just to attend the masterclass - only £20 for masterclass and ticket deal to watch Renditions on 11th/12 Oct

Explore elements of each Rendition; from Sarah Michelson's powerful The Hangman, Emanuel Gat's fluid In Translation and Wendy Houstoun's humorous, poignant Imperfect Storm. Dancers from the company will lead morning class, followed by creative tasks.

Tickets: £45 (includes access to: both days of workshop, Saturday evening performance of Nearly Ninety, Cunningham Company Open Rehearsal + Legacy Talk with Executive Director, Trevor Carlson)

A Weekend Workout exploring the life and work of choreographer Merce Cunningham through historical context, movement, and choreographic creation - using Cunningham's dance-making principles as well as the computer program DanceForms.
In addition to contextual and historical discussion, participants will get to experience the choreographic process as both a creator and performer.

The weekend will be led by Trevor Carlson (Executive Director) and Kevin Taylor (Director of Special Projects), and will include a special technique class with Robert Swinston (Director of Choreography).

Ages 18+. Open to dancers and choreographers of all levels - from student to professional.
Movement participation is expected, but inclusive of a wide range of styles and technical levels.
